I will say, I didn’t see any major gaffes, though there were some funny moments and they had both rehearsed certain ideas, such as Biden saying he’s “for the middle class,” and “wants to give everyone a fair shot,” and Ryan saying “we need to take responsibility.” Again, I noticed that just like Obama and Romney, they kept repeating certain phrases and kept coming back to the same ideas, especially Joe Biden.

They’re both quite articulate, and Biden did sound very mature and obviously knows a lot about what goes on in Washington (more than Romney could ever know), but Paul Ryan skin analyzer machine manufacturerswas also more keen to answer questions and then sneak in attacks against the Obama administration, something that Biden would not do unless Ryan had done it first. Listening to Paul Ryan is very refreshing compared to Romney, because he just knows so much more about government, in many ways Paul Ryan should be the one running for President, if only he were more inspirational.

We all know that Biden has enormous experience in Congress, but the only time he would ever jump on an issue, was when Ryan had already brought up the issues. Again, I feel like the Obama and Biden have so many ways to attack the Republicans and yet they don’t seem to do it. Biden brought up the 47% issue, but that’s about it, and he repeated that quite a few times. Joe Biden would often say the Democrats want to “give everyone a fair shot,” but what does that mean? He said this in his closing speech, and again, the last thing that people heard, was not a thoughtful expression of liberalism, but instead a soft, feel-good vapor of “it will all be better.” Yeah the sentence I just wrote made me sound very vapid, but it kind of accentuates what I mean.

Both of them lacked the ability to say memorable quotes or anything very enlightening. They wasted a lot of time on foreign policy, talking in circles and not really going anywhere when they really agree on most issues with foreign policy. The abortion question is one where Republicans seem to always have an advantage, and I think part of it is because nobody likes the idea of an abortion, but somehow, liberals have a hard time articulating the abortion issue, when you’re mixing it in with the wonders of the creation of life at the same time.

I think Biden and Ryan both very intelligent and experienced people in government, and they’re both much more experienced than Romney (Romney is a business guy) and we’ll have to see what Obama does in the next debate. Obama needs to say more things that uphold liberalism and not just focus so much on specific details. With the many occasions that had Biden going on a touchy-feely soliloquy and the way Ryan is so comfortable under his skin and stayed more focused on his responses and gave the more poignant closing statement, I’ll have to give the debate to Paul Ryan. Neither Biden nor Ryan scored a huge home run or made any big statements that can stick to you, but there were just too many opportunities that Biden missed to showcase the ideals of liberalism.
