I’m 13 and Southeast-Asian and people anywhere near my age or in general know that these days many people are labeled by their skint ones. African Americans are “blacks” Caucasians “whites” South-East Asians “brown” and South Asians “yellow” and so on.
Are you as a person offended by tthis? To be honest I’m not but I do understand that others are. I think I’m not offended because I’m proud of my heritage and if others call me brown, I’m really okay with it because quite honestly, it IS my skin color and its nohing to be ashamed about.
I also don’t udnerstand why in so many textbooks and in the public today it isn’t considered exactly racist to refer to people as “black” or “white”. In newspapers and such you find people labeled like this but not much criticism is made towards it. However when someone is called “yellow” or “brown” there is a lot of hype.
In Social Studies class one day, we were talking and when black was mentioned the statement was just passed but as soon as brown was said the teacher yelled at the classmate for being racist.What do you think about this?
