Hi, I have a 4 year old Boxer. She started showing red blood blister looking circles on her stomach today. Hi, I have a 4 year old Boxer. She started showing red blood blister looking circles on her stomach today. When I took a closer look i started seeing smaller ones all over her chest and ears and belly. On the back of her legs is where she has the worst looking ones. I have no clue what these could be from. I checked for ticks, flees and allergic reaction possibly. Couldnt find any reasonable answer as to why these where showing up. I decided to take her to the vet to see what these were. The vet was just as confused as i was. He asked if she had gotten into any kind of rat poison or pest controll. I told him no. He then wanted to run a blood test on her. When he drew blood from her, her arm swelled up to the size of a baseball. As we waited for the results he just wrapped up her arm.
When he came back with the results from the blood test, he said that her blood platelet count was very low (75k). So my question is, Is this in fact what is causing “red blood blister” looking penny size spots on my dog? Or is it something more allergenic that could be causing the red spots? Any input would help me come up with a conclusion to this problem

Maikang First of all, look at what she is eating, food allergies can cause these as some dogs are allergic to fowl such as chicken, duck, turkey, even beef.
What I would do also is see what she is laying on all day, is she outside in the grass, dirt, does she lay on the payment or in a garage?
do you put down any carpet cleaner such as a white powder kind that takes away smells of pets?
All of these items can cause allergic reactions to dogs that have skin conditions.

What I would do first is make sure what she lays on is clean and dirt free, dust mites do this also, the attack the dogs skin and make scratch and or bite the skin causing red blotches all over the dog even into the ears. Even though you cannot see dust mites, they are there from dust of any kind.

So make sure the surfaces and any where she lays is CLEAN, and perfume free.
2nd is change your dogs food to help in her allergies, switch to a lamb based or venison, or bicon based food. THere is even an all vegetable food too from Nature’s Balance if you can get that brand.
No rice, look for sweet potato for the starch or filler.
Never buy grocery store food or any food that has color in it as that can cause allergies. Never buy Benifical, Alpo, Pedigree, IIams, etc as these foods are terrible for dogs.
Go to your local Pet store and look for foods that you do not see in grocery stores and talk to a professional or do your research on the internet for better quality food.
I hope I gave you some help here but again, food is the #1 issue here if she is not laying on the ground and as for fleas, she would scratch terribly and ticks you would be able to see as they stay on one spot on the dog.
Now if you change your dog’s food you need to wait at least 2 to 3 weeks to see a change and if you do, you will know it was a food allergy.
My dog had that too as it was red blotches all over her skin, legs, chest and once I took her off of chicken, turkey, duck, it went away.

Maikang The only time I ever saw anything like what you are talking about was 45 years ago and it was a human boy who was having an allergic reaction to a medication he was regularly taking…his body just decided to reject it. His whole body was covered in red spots..dark red kind of puffy spots and his face was really swollen. He was in the same hospital I was in and we went from room to room looking for friends.If the vet can’t figure it out….I would see what google comes up with and ask another vet Best of luckskin analyzer
